Unique Hangis 2011 Ltd is the only company registered with the Food Safety Authority using the traditional method of Hangi. Without giving away too many trade secrets, we can reveal that the meat, vegetables and stuffing are placed into foil lined metal baskets, lined in cabbage leaves then covered with Hessian sacks. In the final process we cover with soil to contain the heat and produce that unique hangi flavour.
We use locally sourced beef, pork, lamb complemented by five seasonal organic vegetables supplied by Brydone Growers then prepared in the on site commercial kitchen.
Meal trays comprise of one meat, five vegetables, stuffing and gravy with gluten free and vegetarian options available.
Once prepared in Hampden the five assorted pie fillings are transported by chilled freight to Montana Bakery in Christchurch. They finish the pie process using the Scotch pastry method, which we found complements our hangi pie fillings beautifully.
